Took 9th place at Footlocker in the seniors race, 56th at state cross country(16:46). Generally had a good time.

I won a half marathon, and ran a marathon that I got like 9th in, then won some random 5ks, and wrecked some relay runs before I dipped to do missionary work in Japan.

 

Short-Term Running Goals:

Get into shape, avoid injury, compete in distance events.

I'm gonna try to race 5k's every couple weeks, 10k's occasionally, and as we get into spring hop into some track races if they're available.

I'm gonna walk onto BYU's team. I know what it takes and I'm gonna do it. I'll probably wait until Fall 2019 to tryout for XC.

Long warmup, then some track work. 800s went 2:45, 2:41. 400s went 77, 75, 76, 72. It hurt really bad. I suck at short intervals. I'm really hurting from all this running. It hurts so good tho.

Hobbyjogged with Stathan Naker. It was good to see him and cruise around in the mountains. He taught me a sick trail so we got on that and went out 3.5. It felt really good.

Nice easy run. Did the first two miles with my little sister. It was fun to run with her. Then did the rest on my own. I felt fatigued the last 2-3 miles. It was a big week with a lot of miles. I'll hit up a 5k soon and see where my fitness is.

Did a nice long run. Kept it at 7:20's then I did some hill sprints and headed home. Felt really good, and ran in Mr Thorpe my physics teacher. I was worried I took it out too quick, but it turned out okay.

Did a 5 hard, 5 easy, 4 hard, 4 easy, down to one minute. Felt decent. I kept all of them at just under 6min pace. For the high mileage I feel good, but I don't feel fast yet lol. I did this workout on a track, so if I did it on hills I probably would have died. I probably won't ever do this workout again.

Long slow run. I felt way lethargic so it was slow. I felt good tho. It was cold. I had tights and a jacket and gloves and by the end didn't feel warm. I wasn't cold, but not warm.

Hobbyjogged around for 9.2 miles. It was nice. Pretty slow at 7:26 pace. Felt way good. Tired, but good.

Long run monday. It was slow because...I didn't push it. I ended with 6:30's, but I got on a trail that slowed me down and for some reason in the middle of this run I didn't put any spring in my step. I feel really good so I know for these long runs I can keep it at 7:30's and be thinking about going faster than that. I definitely need better places to run 12 miles tho. The route I did was kinda trash.

Good workout. Did a long warmup, then did 2x1mile, 3x800. Miles went 5:49, 5:40. 800's were 2:48, 2:51, 2:38. I felt a lot better during the miles. But the 800's were bad because I started out too fast. The last I stayed relaxed and sped up and did a lot better. Then I did a long cooldown. I felt super good. It was just the perfect workout for where my fitness was. I am super happy. I stretched out really good.

I saw a girl from my grade as I was in the middle of my first mile she looked really surprised. I don't think she recognized me but just seeing a dude in short shorts sprinting towards you is probably a shock. 

I'm gonna run a 5k on Saturday and try to go sub-18. I think I can do it.

Got out and ran with BJ. It was nice. We moved quick for about 5 miles, then I did 3 slower on my own. Averaged out to 7:31's.

I massaged it and stretched a little last night, but I was still worried about my foot, and I should have been. It was not feeling very good for a while, but I figured out how to run on it normally and was able to roll through 12 miles like I wanted to. I wanted 7:30's, and hit 7:21's and felt very consistent. I was quick at the start, stayed quick, hit uphill and was hitting 7:40's for about 2 miles, then got quick again and right at the end I got tired and long run fatigue hit me a little bit. For no fuel I liked this run a lot. Also it was way cold. I thought my hands were gonna fall off. I hit some good stretching and I'll massage my foot again tonight and hopefully I can keep working through it.

Good workout. Did 3x1mile, then 4x.25mile. Hit the miles at 5:49, 5:44, 5:43, then 400's went 73, 69, 73, 70. I did everything quicker than I wanted to so that was good. The last half of it I felt like absolute trash hahaha. I gutted it out tho. I really had to dig deep on the quarter miles. Then I did a long cooldown. Overall good workout, and just about perfect for where my fitness was.

Thanksgiving was sick. Ate good. Did a run in the evening on the treadmill. It felt decent. I had music and the assurance of a restroom that I could get to in 8 seconds, so that was nice. Did the last mile barefoot, that wrecked my feet. I have a weird spot on my right foot that will never not hurt, and the barefoot running aggravated it.

Good long run. Decided I would do 10 miles of it at a consistent faster pace so I did a 2 miles "warmup" then 10 miles at 6:44 pace. It wasn't the most fun run I've ever been on, but I proved to myself that I can cruise at a good pace for a long time. I'll probably keep doing this style run regularly especially on my long runs. I was kinda tense the whole time, and that got me really rolling on downhills, but uphills killed me. Also I did this on a route that is almost all downhill, so I dunno how accurately they reflect my fitness. Overall felt good, pushed myself mentally, and my legs figured out how to push a little when I'm tired.

I dunno if anyone looks at my blog, but if you do what do you think of runs like this? I could probably do faster(and I would like to :P), but how fast is too fast, and how do I figure that out? For the foreseeable future I'll be doing following a schedule that looks like the one below for reference.

Monday = long run (12+miles)

Tuesday = recovery(relaxed 8-10miles)

Wednesday = intervals/tempo(4miles of intervals/4-5mile tempo run or something)

Thursday = recovery(relaxed 9+miles)

Friday = recovery(8-10miles)

Saturday = long workout/race(still figuring this out, but mostly races)

Sunday = rest

I made this up based on my minimal experience, and things I've heard about what other runners do. I think there's lots of room for improvement in it, and there are details I need to fill in every week about the workouts and distances I'll do, but I'd appreciate any input everyone has!

My brother woke me up on time so I was able to go run 8 miles on the Ogden River Parkway. It was pretty nice. Then I did sprints. I averaged 7:15's about. Feeling good.

Did a big boy workout. The goal was 16x400m@1:12+1:12 rest. That didn't happen lol. They went more like 83, 79, 74, 73, 73, 73, 75, 74, 74, 74, 74, 76, 76, 72, 73, 72. It didn't hurt too much, I'm just slow and out of shape now.

What went well: I did it, mentally this is a tough workout for me, but I was able to finish it. Times were also fairly consistent once I got going.

Things to do better: start out quick and get into a groove. Be mentally positive. Going into this workout I knew it was gonna be hard, and that got to me a little bit. Even though I am going to be doing very hard workouts that I haven't done for 2 years, or maybe not ever in my life I need to make sure I go in with the attitude that I'm going to own it and hit my goal times. Wear gloves. I just need to put on gloves next time it seems like it could be cold and stop toughing it out when I don't need to.

I am very happy and proud about this workout. I haven't pushed like this in a long time, and I'm at a good place, and from here I can just keep improving.

Slow run. I was tired and hungry and they closed my favorite trail for construction, so I did a bunch of crazy stuff and got lost and it wasn't fun. Also the inversion was killing me. But it's whatever. I had a good time.
